SPXO, also known as a Standard Packaged Crystal Oscillator, is commonly referred to as OSC or XO. It is the simplest type of crystal oscillator and is also the most widely used. The frequency control component of an SPXO is a quartz crystal, with no other control or compensation methods applied. Its temperature characteristics are solely determined by the temperature characteristics of the quartz crystal.
SPXO neither has temperature compensation functionality nor voltage control functionality. Its frequency characteristics are entirely dependent on the crystal and external oscillation circuit. The standard frequency of an SPXO is 1~100MHz, with a frequency accuracy of up to ±10ppm. Because SPXO does not include any frequency compensation features, it has the lowest accuracy among crystal oscillators and is often riced lower, making it commonly used as a clock device for microprocessors. In PCB layout, SPXO components should be kept away from heat sources.
